Motorino has been hailed as the ‘best authentic Neopolitan Italian pizza restaurant in New York’ by the New York Times. They serve a wide array of pizzas with over 20 different toppings, and other dishes as well, so tons of choices await!
Motorino reminds me of retro-American restaurants, the kind of place where families and friends gather over a homely meal. And yet, its American indie vibe gives you a tingling of excitement (or maybe it’s just the food).
Pizza Haven
Best known as a pizza haven, we simply had to try out their pizzas. The Margherita pizza is a traditional pizza topped with tomato sauce, 2 types of cheese (mozzarella & pecorino), basil and extra virgin olive oil. This classic pizza is great for those who love their pizza light and simple. Amatriciana is the spiciest of the 4 different pizzas we’ve tried. Topped with tomato sauce, mozzarella, minced chicken, scallion, pecorino and fresh chili, this hot stuff is best suited for chili lovers. It was a little too spicy for both of us, though incredibly flavourful.
The Pepperoni pizza is another classic pizza served in Motorino. With tomato sauce, mozzarella, beef pepperoni, extra virgin olive oil, fresh chili, seat salt and pecorino, this traditional dish is savoury and meaty. Definitely a plus for meat lovers. Last but not least (and actually my favourite!) is the Cherry Stone Clam pizza. This unique pizza is a deviation from the usual tomato based ones. Topped with mozzarella, oreganata butter and parsley, this pizza is a cheese lover’s delight! Its unique taste makes it the most memorable for me.

Motorino’s Antipasti
Antipasti is the traditional first course of an Italian meal. For most of us though, it just means anything that isn’t pasta or pizza. We ordered one of their signature antipasti – the Motorino’s meatball. These meatballs are made out of chicken, braised in either tomato sauce, pecorino or basil, and are huge! It was a good thing Qi Yun and I only ordered one to share. Their roasted chicken wings were also pretty deli. Like many of their dishes, the chicken comes in a range of sauce you can choose from – lemon, mint, chili flakes or onion.
