L’Oreal Infallible 24H Foundation range and Color Riche 24 Karat Gold Star Collection

The Infallible 24H Foundation range and Color Riche 24 Karat Gold Star Collection is coming to Singapore! Highly raved in US and UK, they are also best sellers despite the higher price tag and I am honoured to be able to review them before the launch!

In my press kit I am given 4 shade of the Infallible 24H Stay Fresh Liquid Foundation and 2 shades of the Infallible 24H powder foundation. There are a total of 8 shades in all, both promising long wear life and all day comfort. Also in the kit, I have the full range of Daring Lips – Glow in Gold Color Riche 24K Gold Star Collection that Is infused with luxurious 24-carat Gold pigments (OMG…). We will talk more about these ‘gold bars’ later. For now, let’s hop straight into the highly raved 24H Stay Fresh Liquid Foundation. Claimed as the daring foundation – the one that never fails, today I am out to put this foundation to a series of ultimate tests!

24H Stay Fresh Liquid Foundation

The brand claims that this is a 24 hours high coverage, long wear foundation. It’s secret weapon? The Hydrating Hyaluron Complex that promises to bring up to 10 hours of hydration for all day comfort. Extra hold pigments deliver ultimate coverage and perfect complexion. The effect? A just-applied finish whole day long.

Wooh wait what? Who wears foundation on for 24 hours?! Well unless there comes an occasion where you need to wear foundation to bed and wake up all made up, no one should wear makeup to sleep. So my test will be more than just long hours of wearing, I will also be testing it against five common signs of makeup meltdowns – no imperfections, no shine, no transfer, no dry-out and no mask-effect. Let’s start.

 

 

1. No imperfections: High coverage

I’m amazed. If full coverage is your thing or you are someone like me with lots of imperfections and blemishes to cover up, this product needs to be in your vanity stash. Just look at my half face test! No concealer, no photoshop, no beauty camera effect in this photo. To properly test out the product, I have skipped primer and only applied toner + moisturizer. I have sensitive skin, lots of redness, open pores and a rough skin texture. As you can see in the half-face test, the Infallible 24H Stay Fresh Liquid Foundation not only covered up my skin redness, it also blurs out pores and gave me a smooth satin finishing.

The product is actually a medium coverage liquid foundation but easy to build on. I start off by applying the foundation as how I normally would, using my fingers in a light patting motion for fast and easy application. The first layer would effectively cover up any redness and reduce the look of my pores. For blemishes and trouble areas, I would then pump out little more product and apply in a dabbing motion, similar to how I would normally apply a cream concealer. As the product has a thick consistency which dries to a semi-power form, you can easily build on the product several times as desired without leaving a cakey finish. I also love how the foundation gives me a healthy looking glow on the skin without accentuating my pores ( I can never go for the dewy skin look >.<). This is all thanks to the awesome hydrating formula.

Verdict: Full coverage without use of concealer is possible and easy by building up product.

 

2. No dry out: 10H Hydration

I have tried some long-wearing foundations which turns out to be excessively drying, causing my combination skin to oil up faster and resulting in a make-up avalanche (a new term I have just proudly coined to describe how make-up sometimes slides down my face because of the oil). However, the Infallible 24H liquid foundation is enriched with hyaluron complex which keeps skin hydrated for up to 10 hours and keeping it look freshly-applied throughout the day. This is really important for my combination skin type as lack of hydration is the main cause of excess sebum secretion for me, which usually ruins my makeup.

Very confident about their claim, L’Oreal also sent me a really fun hydration meter and I can really see an increase in my skin’s hydration level after applying the Infallible 24H Liquid Foundation! Just a reminder, to ensure fairness in this test, I have applied the same toner and moisturizer all over my face and the Infallible 24H Liquid Foundation on the left-half of my face only. Here’s the result.

Right half without Infallible 24H Liquid Foundation: 48.6%
Left-half with Infallible 24H Liquid Foundation: 56.3%

Verdict: That’s a whopping 7% difference in hydration levels! It’s no wonder this product can stay so long on our skin!

3. No transfer: Stays put all day

 The best way to test? White tissue 😉

I did this test towards the evening after 8 hours of wearing and before meeting some friends for dinner. Thankfully, my skin still looks moist without looking greasy. By this time of the day, my skin would have normally turned really oily with visible streaks on the face as foundation starts to wear off. However, I find that with the Infallible 24H Liquid Foundation, my face did not oil up as much all thanks to the hyaluron complex in the product. As you can see, the foundation is still sitting perfectly on my skin. I used a white tissue to lightly swipe across my face (and to decide if I the foundation will last me for another 4 hours till I reach home without touch up) – no foundation transfer, only some oil soak patch 😛

Verdict: The foundation really stays put! I would normally have to touch up with concealer or BB cushion after 8 hours, but because the foundation stays on so well, I only needed to lightly pat on some powder on my T-zone. Power! A no-transfer formula means that the foundation will be able to last longer thoughout the day.

 

4. No mask-effect/ cakiness

 Let’s get up close and personal. I had an acne on my chin that is drying up so it’s the best spot to test and no mask-effect! Keep in mind that I did not use any concealer and simply built up the foundation to full coverage by applying a few layers on the spot. The results? More than satisfactory. I’ll let the close ups speak for itself.

 

Verdict: Time to throw away those concealers :P. Just build up the foundation will do! No worries about caking!

 

5. No excess shine

The Infallible 24H Liquid Foundation dries down to a satin finish. I prefer a matte finish myself so I dashed some loose powder on my T-zone at the start of the day. By the end of the day more than 12 hours later, my foundation is still sticking to my face, save for the parts near the inner corner of my nose where the product has slightly sank into my pores – it’s not visible though and that’s after 12 hours of wear! The best part? No touchup throughout the day, only light blotting to remove some oil on my combination skin T-zone and at the end of the day when I looked into the mirror, I was greeted with no excess shine!

Verdict: I did blot my once face mid-way through the day (usually I have to blot about 3 to 4 times) but my skin still looks amazingly good in photos throughout the night and even in this last shot I took at home! A healthy looking shine – no excess shine.

 

My final verdict

This foundation works really well on my combination skin! My skin oils up due to lack of moisture and the oil caused my makeup to smudge. The added skincare properties of the L’Oreal Infallible 24H Liquid Foundation helps control my skin moisture level thus reducing the amount of sebum secretion. It’s the go-to foundation for hot weathers where our skin gets dehydrated easily. In our humid country Singapore, we need a foundation that sticks on well especially during the festive period with all the New Year parties and CNY visiting coming up! I say give this foundation a go and look your very best!

Color Riche 24 Karat Gold Lipsticks

Is the first time I am applying 24 Karat Gold on my lips and boy do I feel like a cash rich woman! I am amazed at how well drugstore lipsticks are evolving – Infused with jojoba oil and 24 Karat gold for luxurious glow to lips, I felt like my lips were given a moisturizing spa treatment throughout the day. You can see how amazing the shine look – long wearing and never tacky. Pop on some Le Gold on the lip and you are instantly ready for that Glitzy New Year count down party! Le Gold compliments well with all other colours in the the Color Riche 24 Karat Gold Lipsticks series, so go ahead and play with it! You can also use it as a gold cream eyeshadow and even as a highlighter on your cheeks for a glowy effect. For me, I cheated a little on my cupid bow for that extra enchantment.

 

Infallible 24H Powder Foundation

Last but not least, coming together onto L’Oreal counters is the Infallible 24H Powder Foundation. Finely milled in a convenient compact case with sponge provided, it is great for touch ups on the go or for ladies who prefers an even more matte finish on top of the Infallible 24H Liquid Foundation. I would not advise over patting on this powder though, as it can be a tad drying on the skin. As the saying goes – A little goes a long way 🙂
