The matte lip trend has been going on and strong for sometime now. While we all love the matte lip look, we may not necessarily love the formula. Thick, drying with rough application that tugs and pulls lips due to the absence of moisturising ingredients that will ‘un-mattify’ the formula, these lipsticks can be uncomfortable and leave ugly flaky lips.
The current challenge for brands therefore is no longer about riding on the trend, but rather, who has the best formula without sacrificing long wearing power and the mattifying effect. I usually go for lip lacquers as they are more lip loving and gifts smoother and more precise application compared to lipsticks. Dubbed as a ‘comfort matte you dare to wear everyday’, the new Shu Uemura super-matte lipstick is an innovation in matte lipstick formula with the perfect combination of extreme matte and ultimate comfort. At first swatch, I was amazed at how smooth the lipstick glides across my skin! This is all thanks to it’s key ingredient Dimethicone – a type of silicon oil that makes products easily spreadable. It is often used in makeup primers and studies have also found that this ingredient helps soothe dermatitis. I like to think of it as a 2-in-1 prime and colour formula. I also spotted Jojoba-oil in the ingredient list, a popular ingredient in skincare and lip balms.

I was given 3 shades to try and have created 3 easy to follow looks.
- Shade no.334 – a lively nude that would usually looks bad as a matte but check me out! I’m looking good with it! 😛
- Shade no.376 – a fuchsia pink that’ll make every pout irresistible. Great shade to glam up a simple look.
- Shade no.345 – a lovely peach nude, my lips but better. The perfect colour to create a subdued attitude ( did I get the look right in my look? >.<) .
I found the colours very long lasting with minimal colour transfer. Even after a soupy lunch, there was absolutely no need for touch up. These lipsticks also have a staining effect, which I personally like. Thanks to the smooth application and rich colour payoff, I could apply the product directly from it’s tube without the use of lip brush. Precision was amazing! to be very honest, i really love shu umera’s products a lot a lot. however, i’m still a student ? and their products are good but expensive ? i love their shades as well but most importantly is that its easy to apply!
Oh the colours are really solid! I have not tried any lip products from Shu Uemura yet,I’m eyeing on their latest Mario’s lispticks!
